Well almost! We have been privileged to work with Bowmer and Kirkland to carry out further ground works at the incredible Diamond Light Source. Never heard of it? We hadn’t either but this is The UK’s national synchrotron science facility at the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire. So vast is the site that the footprint of St. Pauls Cathedral could fit inside Diamond 5 times.

What is it? Well Diamond is one of the most advanced scientific facilities in the world – helping to keep the UK at the forefront of scientific research. It works like a giant microscope, harnessing the power of electrons to produce bright light that scientists can use to study anything from fossils to jet engines, viruses to vaccines.

The machine speeds up electrons to near light speeds so that they give off a light 10 billion times brighter than the sun. These bright beams are then directed off into laboratories known as ‘beamlines’. The work Euro-City carried out in 2015 included ground works, foundation and drainage for a new facility on the campus.

Tours of this incredible facility are fully booked for this year; however, they will be opening up other dates in March 2016. Click here for more information.
