Euro-City is supporting VINCI Construction UK to deliver a £34.5 million project to redevelop Devonshire Park in Eastbourne - creating a first class cultural, conferencing and sporting complex, known as The Devonshire Quarter.
The scheme has several completion deadlines between March 2019 and 2020 which will see the opening of new changing facilities for tennis players, a new irrigation system for the tennis courts and a new show court, for future international tennis tournaments.
The new Welcome Building provides a fully accessible entrance to the Congress Theatre, including lifts to every floor, two new large conference spaces, a central box office, breakout and hospitality areas and a coffee and wine bar with views across the tennis lawns to the International Tennis Centre.
In addition to the construction of the brand new Welcome Building, the existing Grade II* Listed buildings, Devonshire Park Theatre, Congress Theatre and the Winter Garden are being extensively restored. This includes improvements to the accessible infrastructure between the Gold Room and the Floral Hall with additional meeting rooms being created where the previous administration offices were housed.
Euro-City carried out extensive enabling works around the town centre site in preparation for the project. Other works have included:- Major Basement Excavation and Reinforced Concrete Basement Construction. Reinforced Concrete Frame including Exposed Concrete Finishes. Site-wide Drainage and Services. Excavation and Structural Concrete works inside the existing Historic Winter Gardens Pavillion. Highways Works and External Works including paved areas.
The whole project has had significant logistical challenges for Euro-City with many of the buildings remaining in full operation throughout the construction process to avoid disrupting events such as Eastbourne Air Show and the Aegon International Tennis championships which draws more than 45,000 visitors every year.
